Moonlighting

Artists: Peter Lankas and Dino Consalvo

At ASW until Nov 17

A similar urge to represent the city of Newcastle in paint and texture has brought two talented artists together to exhibit at Art Systems Wickham. Peter Lankas and Dino Consalvo enjoy a mutual regard for the practice of fine art highlighted extensively in the exhibition. “Moonlighting” traces a journey of weekly painting escapades as both artists capture urban and suburban settings on canvas.

Though the scenes are infused with similar perspective and composition each painter reveals striking differences in style and approach. Lankas produces canvases with free blousy brushstrokes describing the sights of Newcastle in a chaotic cacophony of colour and emphasis.

Consalvo takes a measured response stimulating the viewer with superb detail and simple transitions between contrasting rhythms. Nostalgia and longing are present in more muted paintings.

Also of note are 3 paintings by Lankas offering a glimpse into suburbia he so often represents with a more public perspective. These paintings depicting home are beautifully represented and beckon for further exploration in this territory.

Moonlighting is on exhibit until Nov 17 at ASW located at 40 Annie St Wickham. Hours Fri-Sun 12-4
