Artists: Kelly Barlin, Kelsey Fletcher, Vicki Gerritsen and Kate Wilson.
On exhibit at Four Point Gallery until 26th Oct.
Embracing self-expression and creative zeal is a great component of Four Point Gallery. This roomy space is providing gutsy artists with an area to showcase their developed concepts and skill. At present the gallery is showing a collection of work by the four local artists staffing this initiative.
A silkscreen portrait by Kelly Barlin titled Stay Afloat is an image of youth in melancholic abandon. Regret and disappointment are etched onto the features exposing damage and time. Revealing the vulnerable is the beauty in this work.
Collage can build mystery transcending the visual surrounds and hence stimulate the viewer to imagine strange alternate worlds and meaning. Indicative of human dominance are a trio of works by Vicki Gerritsen who achieves with menacing detail the bizarre.
Kate Wilson demonstrates a fluid response to life drawing exercises with the softness of the female form enhanced by watercolour. Weight and movement are realised along with perfect dimensions.
The horse as central focus of an acrylic painting by Kelsey Fletcher is deceit, as the need to look beyond this to technique and the bold move towards abstraction is paramount. This talented painter applies paint with clean measured effectiveness creating abrupt juxtapositions organic and opulent.
Staff Collection is on exhibit until 26th Oct. Four Point Gallery is located at 681b Hunter St, Newcastle. Hours are Wed to Fri 10am – 4pm, Sat 10am – 2pm.
