Artists: Willi Haas and Werner Neumann
At ASW until March 31st.
The gathering of new work from Willi Haas and Werner Neumann at Art Systems Wickham celebrates creative intrigue. Eclectic wall assemblages and sculptures, covering two very different styles, blast with warmth and mystique.
A tense yet fragile aura supports the sculptures of Haas whose dominant orb delivers a hefty punch. Somehow a rigid strength is softened with moving line, the mild steel structures emanating poignant flow. Fresh anguish is thrown out there amidst a stern jolting dialogue. Each sculpture has its own expressive vigour and pressure. It belts out a rhythmic thump akin to throbbing base.
Soaring amidst these potent sculptures are the bouncy, buoyant assemblages of Neumann. Stomping with independence, these bright animated conglomerations hold slick discourse. Healthy bursts of humour are served with a post punk experimental feel. A rawness results deserving further exploration.
There’s a decent sense of awe nestled within this bustling exhibition. Haas and Neumann compliment in a discordant cadence. The resulting grill is pure and unruly.
The exhibition runs until March 31.
