Over in the old Western Suburbs hospital there’s a bit of a gallery going on. Now part of Hunter New England Health it aims to create a stimulating environment one that embraces the creative spirit of Newcastle. Yesterday I had the pleasure of viewing the current show by a group from the Society of Artists. The exhibition is varies in both the techniques on offer as well as subject matter. Experimentation by Bev Leggett Simmons is always an inspiration and I loved Gwendolin Lewis’s atmospheric beach scene. Flowers as subject matter were abundant but my stand out plant painting was a mixed media by Jenni Gander.
Plainly the walls are adorned with art primarily to brighten up this space for the students and staff but also importantly a portion of the sales raises funds for the John Hunter Children’s Hospital. Understandably access to the site requires a bit of planning so anyone wanting more information feel free to contact me.
